This book was not written to walk on the feelings of anyone who went a little "overboard" in their fear ("preparation" they like to call it) of Y2K. (Like your neighbor. You didn't go overboard. But he surely did!) It has a twofold purpose:
1. To tell you what you should do now that Y2K is behind us.
2. To teach you what to do to keep from getting caught up in the next "The sky is falling!" type of hysteria..
It will help you.
I wrote this book in early 1999. For too many years everywhere I went as I traveled the country someone else came up to me to warn me about "Y2K!" There would be no electricity, no water, no food, no clothing, no freedom. (Probably no air either.) What I needed to do was to get a place in the mountains, stockpile food, water, clothing, ammunition and wait for "The End."
I was especially taken back by how the Christians faced this "crisis" exactly like everyone else...panic! (They called it "Good Stewardship" or the "Joseph Principle")
Everybody and their brother was; doing a seminar, hawking survival supplies and of course selling their book on how to "Survive & Thrive Through Y2K".
I have always believed in being prepared for the "unexpected". Such things as floods, tornadoes or some other natural disaster. But this Y2K thing was
quite out of hand. It was the ultimate bad without a shred of hope. The fact is, I'd seen and heard so many "The sky is falling!" threats over the past few decades that I just didn't think this was going to be as bad as predicted. (Unless it was manufactured.)
It also failed to take into account or give any credit at all to the natural resilience and initiative of the American people.
I began swimming against the stream of panic publicly and was criticized by everybody who had a book to sell or a case of "freeze-dried pizza" they wanted to unload. Then I realized something. If Y2K turns out to be less than predicted these very same people are going to write new books explaining why Y2K wasn't as bad as predicted or how they had saved us by their many warnings and by so doing they would take the folks they panicked for even more money. But worst of all, they won't have anything to tell them!
So I decided to that someone who never did believe it would be bad should stand up and help the folks who had been deceived and panicked. And to show them how to keep from being stampeded again when the next "great threat" to mankind appears. (And you can bet it will!) So here it is.
This book is a calculated gamble. As I write it
January 1, 2000 is still a few months away. I can't possibly release it until after that date. But if Y2K is as bad as predicted then this book has no reason for existing and my advice is as faulty as I say the advice of the Y2Cowards should be if it isn't. So the good news is that if you're reading this right now then Y2K wasn't "the end of civilization as we know it" as previously predicted. If it was, then you'll never see this and none of it really matters.
But here you are. So read on and get some help before someone sells you on the idea of an asteroid hitting the earth, or "Global Warming" or some other "Boogie Man" that the News Media conjures up to keep you constantly frightened.
As I write this, January 1, 2000 has come and gone. I will not alter the text of this book as I originally wrote it to prevent "back-writing" some prophecy into it. I have instead added a "2000 Afterword" as a finally chapter to give you some updated information and some examples of just how great a hoax the Y2K scare was.

Some of you reacted with varying degrees of terror. ( I did good. I didn't say, "stupidity".) Some merely stocked up on a few gallons of water and flashlight batteries. Others followed the advice of some favorite "Prophet of Doom" and bought heavily into the Y2K preparations. You stocked up on years and years supplies of winter clothing, shoes, medicine, toilet paper, ammunition, gold, silver, precious stones (and more "wood, hay and stubble" than you realize) and who knows what else. Some went absolutely bonkers and moved into your own little "bunker" in the woods to protect yourself from all those hoodlums, vandals, ghosts and goblins that were going to magically materialize on January 1, 2000.
Some of you preached the "Gospel of Y2K Survival" with a zeal that would make the Apostle Paul feel lethargic. Now it's come and gone. Sure, there were some hits. There had to be. But it wasn't "the end of civilization as we know it." It wasn't "God's judgement on a wayward America." The Lord did not come back and call His Christians home and leave the rest with Bill Clinton. It wasn't the harbinger of death and destruction that we were all assured of by everybody who could say, "Y2K is coming!...Buy my book!"
So here you are. A "survivor" with nothing to survive! Attics, basements, garages and "bunkers" stocked with enough food, clothing and ammunition to make Wal-Mart proud. The only thing that happened just like they said it would was that your bank account is gone! No. Not due to some retarded computer that couldn't figure out what day it was so it gave all money away. No. It's gone because you spent it. You spent it on that mountain of junk that was going to help you survive Y2K! You spent it on generators, survivalist gear and books on, "How To Survive Y2K".
Think you may have overdone it? Well, it's not your fault. You were bombarded daily by barrage after barrage of "death & destruction" statistics from a source you trusted. The News Media. Add to that the fact that you quit thinking analytically years ago when you found that it was easier to watch "20/20", "60 Minutes" or "48 Hours" to get an opinion than to bother your brain to think independently of television and newspapers and form your own opinion. Americans don't think anymore. They watch TV instead. Then you turned to a minister only to find that someone, who was supposed to be a source of help and hope, was selling his new book on Y2K also.
How could this happen? Simple. It's what I call the "Boogie Man" sales tactic. You see, people buy some things because they have an intrinsic value. In other words, they're worth having. That's the case with everything from a car to a refrigerator. From a flashlight to a screwdriver. These are things that we all need so we buy them. Some others items would never be purchased unless the buyer can see a need for them. The greater the need, the higher the price. First, you show someone that they are in a "hopeless" situation. Then, when they are prancing around the room, wringing their hands, crying, "What are we going to do?!" you give them hope. Not just any hope. Their only hope. The hope you sell!
In other words you tell them about a "Boogie Man". You tell them about how horrible that "Boogie Man" is and you let them know that he's going "door-to-door" and is only a block away. When they are "panicked to perfection" you offer to sell them your last bottle of "Boogie Man Repellent" for the paltry sum of $500. They buy the repellent, and you go buy a new television with their five hundred bucks. The "Boogie Man" never shows up. "Hey! This stuff really works." they cry later, "Man.! Did we ever dodge a bullet on that one. Good thing we bought this ‘Boogie Man' repellant instead of that new TV we wanted" And everybody's happy.
Over the span of one person's lifetime they will hear about their share of "Boogie Men"; "They're going to ration gasoline."; "The Commies are going to take over."; "My company is being bought out by Quakers."; "An asteroid is going to hit the earth."; "The earth is passing through the tail of a comet. It's going to reek havoc."; "We're running out of trees!"
If you found yourself out frantically preaching the "Gospel of Y2K" you need to worry just a little about your judgement. You may need to rethink some of the other "strokes of genius" you've had.
If you're up in your fifties or sixties you need to call all of your friends and tell them, "Don't ever believe anything I tell you. I may be acting under duress." Don't give anyone financial advice and have someone hold your hand when you cross the street. You're not safe!
It's time to look back and try to see who set you up like this. Who was it that "showed you the slides" and then made you act so foolishly? I can answer that with two words. The News Media!
How many times over the years have you been told "the sky is falling" by your friends ("More at 11!") in the News Media. How many "Boogie Men" have they reported as having been "spotted in your neighborhood"?
"The Commies" were, of course, one of their longest running if not their best. But you have found yourself shuddering at the thought of "Killer Bees", fire ants, flesh eating bacteria, DDT, nuclear waste, Radon gas, Smog, "Global Warming", bad water and an absolutely innumerable host of other concoctions that would boggle the mind to begin to tabulate.
Come on! Be honest. How many things have you been scared by only after you read or watched a "Special Report" about it through the News Media? In fact, I have often submitted that Americans are so safe and so secure that they actually have nothing to worry about. So the News Media invents things for them to worry about!
For the "Movers & Shakers" of world events America's purity, righteous determination and sheer force of will became a problem. You see, powers greater than you and me with pockets far deeper than ours and mine had long ago predestinated that there would some day be a one world government. And, unfortunately, a strong and fearless America was its single major (I mean major) obstacle. America's fearlessness and independence had to be eliminated. Thus a two pronged assault was conceived which would destroyed both. The main vehicle used to do this would be the News Media.
Running concurrent with this assault on American industry, in which the News Media played a major roll, was the assault on the very peace of mind of the American people. Someone who would seek to destroy a person's peace of mind is one the most despicable of characters. But to seek to destroy the peace of mind of an entire nation borders on mental genocide. And that's what the News Media does best. Everyday. At six and eleven, or every half-an-hour in some cases.
Y2K isn't the ultimate "Boogie Man". Even as you read this Bill Clinton and his News Media masters are constructing a more permanent replacement for the old Soviet Union. China!
This News Media salesman has hooked you over and over again through the years until you sit there even now unable to see through their tactics or to form a thought independent of their coaching. You are in grave danger. Why? Because you are probably going to buy the next sales pitch they throw you only because you don't know how to resist.
You need to mentally approach the News Media as you would approach any Arab terrorist. Remembering , of course, that the News Media is just as much a terrorist but far more of a danger to you and your family than any Arab "Boogie Man" that you hear about at "Six & Eleven". This is a terrorist that can, that has touched your life when a bomb throwing Arab has been nothing more than a picture on the evening news.
Now the News Media only uses the events around the world to push America and the world in the direction of their own, self-serving agenda. That's why they can't even call them "reporters" anymore in good conscience. Therefore they now call them "journalists".
One great lie Americans believe is that only a government can oppress the people of a nation. Therefore they never even suspect that the News Media, those "watch dogs of our rights", could do it.
Of course if you have become addicted to worrying and love seeing a conspiracy under every bush then I suggest you get yourself another "Boogie Man" since your most recent one just died of malnutrition. The easy part about this is that you won't even have to get out of your livingroom chair. Just grab the remote, turn on the News, cease all thinking functions and let them pour your head full of their newest crisis.
THE fact that "Boogie Men" have been used throughout time to frighten individuals as well as nations into acting in some predetermined manner does not negate the fact that there are some warnings that are legitimate and should be heeded.
The Bible says, "For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?" (Mark 8:36) Wouldn't you seem like the Ultimate Fool to have spent all that time and money getting ready for a "Boogie Man" like Y2K and then head into death without having done anything to prepare?
Your life is very similar to the flight of an airplane. Your every action, every word, every thought is being recorded in your own personal "Flight Data Recorder" at this very moment. Look at a dirty magazine? It's recorded. Tell a lie? It's in there. Steal something from work? We will one day all know what it was and when it was. Try as you may, you cannot access the recorder. It is sealed and will only be opened and played by your Creator at your judgement. You are in trouble and you know it.
But there is hope.
